Wow! We are already one month into 2016! Elinvar had an exciting 2015 and we are looking forward to this year as we continue to focus on the work that feeds our souls – impacting our community in a positive and meaningful way.
As we reflect on our work in 2015, conducting the search for the NC Justice Center, stands out as one of the highlights. This organization is recognized throughout the country for the wonderful social justice work it has done in North Carolina and Rick Glazier is off to a strong start. We also completed the ED searches to lead two new education focused collaboratives– Read Charlotte and Say Yes Guildford. We are excited to see what Munro Richardson and Mary Vigue accomplish through these great organizations.
Jean Davis, MCNC’s new President and Myron Wilkins, the new Executive Director for Greensboro Urban Ministries, have already made positive impacts in their new roles. With great leaders at the helms of all of these organizations, Elinvar is proud to have contributed to these transitions in NC's philanthropic community last year, along with other senior leadership roles in development, finance, communications and operations.
Transition is going to continue to be the theme in this sector for the next few years. We presented our guidance on succession planning to board leaders in numerous gatherings across the state in 2015 and will continue to offer this pro bono work in 2016. Please reach out to Patti Gillenwater (firstname.lastname@example.org or 919-622-5141), if you have a group that would like this one-hour presentation.
Lessons learned: I think our biggest take away from our work in 2015 is that leadership takes courage. Sometimes board members must take the plunge and ask the difficult questions and face tough realities – while always staying focused on the mission of the organization and the people you are there to serve. With courageous leadership real impact will be achieved.
Best wishes for a meaningful and impactful 2016!
