Spring Greetings

This time of year is filled with new beginnings and a wonderful sense of renewal. With that in mind, we are going to veer from our usual focus to share some personal news from your Elinvar friends. 

First, we are excited to congratulate Marirose Steigerwald on her new leadership position with North Carolina Community Foundation. She is joining NCCF as Director of Operations on May 2, 2016. Her association with Elinvar as an Alliance Partner will also continue and we are thrilled that she has joined such a wonderful organization!

Second, we have decided to retain our offices at the Caveness House on Hillsborough Street. Our historic building has turned 100 years old this year and Elinvar is celebrating thirty years in business. We are beginning the process of looking for a special tenant to lease space to. Meantime, you will see a new office configuration the next time you visit. Happily, it will still provide ample room for team and leadership retreats which our clients really enjoy.

Third, we are launching a new service – board development and succession planning for nonprofit boards. While we continue to offer pro-bono training on succession planning for boards and CEO’s, we are finding a need for deeper work with boards that strive to set the bar high for their own performance.

Finally, we are developing a round table group for incoming board chairs to support them in their transition to chair. As any of you who have served as a board chair know, this is not an easy job and often comes with surprises!

Elinvar is excited to welcome Thom Ruhe, new President and CEO of NC IDEA, to North Carolina. He and his family are moving from Cleveland, Ohio, and he brings exciting leadership to this newly formed foundation.

Thom has over two decades of experience in the field of entrepreneurship including: launching new ventures, mentoring, entrepreneurial education, economic development and community building. He has worked with foundations, governments, universities and economic development organizations around the world to expand humanity through entrepreneurial thought leadership, advocacy, public policy work, speaking and publishing. 

Prior to joining NC IDEA, Thom served as Chief Executive Officer of the Entrepreneurial Learning Initiative (ELI), and Publisher of ID8 Nation. Prior to ELI, Thom spent seven years at the Kauffman Foundation where he directed the Foundation's programs addressing entrepreneurial education, mentoring, access to capital and fostering entrepreneurial ecosystems. Thom also led Kauffman Labs for Enterprise Creation, a novel community resource dedicated to advancing experiential based entrepreneurial education in combination with practical technology curricula. Thom was recruited to Kauffman based upon his work as founding chief marketing officer (CMO) for JumpStart Inc., an economic development organization and seed stage investment fund created to invest in and accelerate the growth of high potential, early stage companies in northeast Ohio. Before JumpStart, Thom served as president of Optiem LLC, where he led the growth of a nascent marketing practice to a nationally recognized interactive marketing, communications and public relations agency.

Tuition: $695 per person.  Pre-register by May 25th for $650.00 per person.
